Assumptions for the Energy Savings ROI Calculator
- Energy savings are calculated assuming that power management is implemented fully on all PCs (no exemptions or opt-outs).
- For more accurate savings measurement it is recommended that the out of work hours electricity rate is used.
- Annual savings are based on the assumption of 52 working weeks. Holiday periods will increase the savings.
- Carbon dioxide emissions are calculated based on the US average of 625g Co2/kWH (G8 Climate Scorecards 2009).
Average grams of carbon dioxide emissions emitted per Kilowatt hour of electricity in different countries are available in the calculator Notes tab.
- It has been estimated that six 25-year-old pine trees absorb a tonne of carbon dioxide per year.
- The calculations in the basic calculator assume PC power consumption level of 70 watts and monitor power consumption level of 30 watts.
- The default power consumption levels in the detailed calculator are set to 70 watts for PCs; 30 watts for LCD monitors and 50 watts for CRT monitors. This is based on the average consumption levels.
- It is assumed that an average car emits 2.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

Remember...
Static calculators only give results based on assumptions about your power usage. We recommend you run a PowerMinder energy use audit instead to measure your organization's ACTUAL energy consumption. You should then run What If? scenarios in PowerMinder to assess the impact of power management to your bottom line based on real user data. You can do all of this free today with the PowerMinder 45-day trial.
